Gen Re Gen – From Jan 30 2020

Gen Re-Gen showcases work by a generation of Australian jewellers exploring ideas of regeneration in their work. Some have had direct experience of the recent bushfires and subscribe to nothing less than the ability of their jewels to communicate healing narratives. Their pieces aim to empower wearers to become environmental protectors. Gabrielle McGrath from RedPeg eco studio near Bega sculpts her recycled silver into regenerative seed formations to be worn as earrings, rings and brooches.  “Australia continues to burn and so much flora and fauna are lost, but an extraordinary amount of our native seeds need fire to germinate. Hark! 27 Nov. – Tuesday 24 Dec.

Can you hear the sound of trumpets? Heraldry is a thing!! Rampant lions, bears wielding swords, crowns for queens and kings and fools - they're all emblazoned on designer/maker Suzy Weir's wonderfully graphic work for our Christmas show HARK! A legend in Kings Cross where she creates bold and fiercely local pieces from her public workshop Industrial Bling, Suzy uses familiar symbols to share personal messages through jewels. Marks on a ring might decode as a prescription for hugs and kisses daily, while those in the know will interpret the nautical flag 'z' on a pair of cufflinks as; 'I need [...]

Opal Appreciation Groups

Our second Opal Appreciation Group with the High Priestess of Opals Linda Jackson provided a wonderful insight into the various grades of boulder opal. Linda's tribal opal beaded necklaces also used "potch" or "fun stones" from Lightning Ridge, the home of the famous Black Opal. We're looking forward to our third group this Saturday October 19 at 12pm when Lydia Baker will share her passion for these quintessentially Australian gemstones. Bookings via jewels@jewelsonqueen.com Click here to see a short film about our first group with Sheridan Kennedy.

JOQ Jewellers star with Camilla

It's great to have a street presence as well as our online space. The other day, Kaftan Queen Camilla was lured into our shop by our bushy Wild Things window and was instantly captivated by the work of our featured jewellers. As she was poised to launch her new Home Colours range celebrating 15 years of glamorous wafting she decided to use some of these deeply Australian jewellery pieces in her upcoming shoot. The results are simply stunning. Sky Mazurkiewicz's Sunset Banksia Earrings were a hot favourite as were her Peg Thief Earrings, Bowerbird Amulet, Firoza Earthen Ring, and Tree Fern [...]

Opal Fever

October is Opal Month and the ever colourful Linda Jackson has a stash of stones that she's been making into magical necklaces for the opal tribe. Linda had her first opal jewellery show upstairs in our Queen Street Galleries back in 1981 so it's rather fabulous that she's back with a collection of handcrafted jewels 38 years on! We're also excited to have young Bundjalung jeweller Lydia Baker onboard alongside Cybele from Wabisabi Opals, Sky Mazurkiewicz from Charleys Forest Silver, Sheridan Kennedy from the Queensland opal town of Winton, Skye Bragg from out near Lightning Ridge, and award winning opal designer Miro Schultz from Melbourne. All these fabulous jewellers [...]

Jewels and Art collide on Queen

With viewings of Art for the Wilderness currently on in the Queen Street Galleries upstairs, we're getting lots of like-minded nature lovers through our doors snaffling up our wearable Wild Things! Riley Concannon's delicate silver gum nut earrings, pictured here in the red earth of Nitmiluk National Park, have captured the hearts of many, as have Sky Mazurkeiwicz's forest-forged rings and pendants. Alice Whish's brooches inspired by burnt banksia seeds have also been much admired. These are just a few of the pieces on display in our shop until September 7.
